Books

Throughout our 70 year history the Mammal Society has been known for publishing high-quality books on mammals, from species guides to mitigation guidance handbooks. All hard copy books are available from NHBS, and Mammal Society members can claim a 10% discount on Mammal Society publications by quoting their membership number when ordering.

Some digital publications are available for free via this website, and Mammal Society members and Local Groups are able to access a wider library of e-books from our collection for free (launching soon).

Mammal Review

Mammal Review, our international scientific journal, is owned and published by Wiley. It publishes articles detailing the latest advances in mammal research from around the world. As the official scientific periodical of The Mammal Society, the aim is to provide international researchers with the resources they need to prevent native mammal extinction globally. The scope of the journal includes behavioural ecology, biogeography, conservation, ecology, ethology, evolution, genetics, human ecology, management, morphology, and taxonomy.

Visit the Mammal Review pages on Wiley’s website for further information, to access the journal, or to submit an article.

Mammal Communications

Mammal Communications is our online, open-access journal that encourages short papers on mammal biology and ecology. Research on any aspect of mammal biology is accepted, particularly on British and European mammals.

We are particularly interested in papers that evaluate the current or develop new research into survey and monitoring techniques. All articles are peer-reviewed prior to publication on the website, and assigned a DOI to allow citation.
